A Year in Thailand
Things that still blow my mind:
I showed up around 1-2 months after receiving the position with basically no time to prepare
I knew absolutely 0 people
I knew 0 Thai other than the Youtube videos I tried to watch before showing up
Things I learned:
Conversational Thai (ish)
I simply cannot drive a motorbike BUT I am a good passenger lol
The difficulty of attaining citizenship status in Thailand + difficulties in living when not a citizen
There are indigenous groups, termed "Hill Tribes" (which in itself is a politicized term), who do not hold citizenship, are stateless, and lack rights despite being native to the land for centuries or longer
There is so much more to Thai food than pad thai
